Nicki Minaj says DJ Khaled "was not serious" about proposing and says it was made to "give the world a glimpse" of their new record, "I Wanna Be With You" off Khaled's "Suffering from Success" album.

Nicki Minaj has finally addressed DJ Khaled's public proposal video, which he released last week. "[DJ]
Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal," she said Monday (July 29).

“I was shocked just like the rest of the world and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world ’cause Khaled is a master at what he does,” Minaj told Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex.

Yesterday, before Nicki spoke about this, DJ Khaled released his latest song off Suffering from Success. The song, "I Wanna Be With You," features Future, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj.

“It was just another way for him to kinda give the world a glimpse on the feeling of this record,” Minaj said.

"Nobody in my real life took it seriously," she said. "Everybody just hit me like, ‘LOL. Yo, Khaled is crazy.’”

Minaj confirmed that he was only "kidding" with the proposal video.

“Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, ya’ll. Please let it go. He was kidding. He’s not attracted to me. He doesn’t like me. We’re brother and sister.”

In his proposal video, Khaled referenced his new album, as stated in HipHopDX's initial report. The album will be titled Suffering from Success and is set to feature "I Wanna Be With You."

Khaled's proposal, courtesy of MTV, can be viewed below, followed by Nicki Minaj's latest interview, as streamed by Late Nite Creep.

Harry Belafonte Asks For Sit-Down With Jay-Z & Beyonce

Harry Belafonte Asks For Sit-Down With Jay-Z & Beyonce
"My heart is wide open and filled with nothing but hope and the promise that we can sit and have a one-on-one," says Harry Belafonte to Jay-Z and Beyonce in an interview.
The back-and-forth between activist and music legend Harry Belafonte and Jay-Z has come to a head—with Belafonte offering an olive branch.
In a 2012 interview, Belafonte listed Jay-Z and Beyonce as two examples of modern, high-profile artists that have "turned their back on social responsibility."
Jay-Z responded to the criticism on "Nickles and Dimes," a track from his latest album, Magna Carta Holy Grail: "I'm just trying to find common ground / 'fore Mr. Belafonte come and chop a nigga down / Mr. Day O, major fail / Respect these youngins boy, it's my time now / Hublot homie, two door homie / You don't know all the shit I do for the homies."
Hov also addressed the matter in a recent interview, stating that he was "offended" by Belafonte's comments.
Now, in an interview with MSNBC, Belafonte explained that his statements about Jay-Z and Beyonce were not in fact a specific attack on either. “I would be hard pressed to tell Mr. Jay-Z what to do with this time and his fortune. All I can be critical is of what he is not doing,” said Belafonte. “This conflict that is emerging was not from me as a direct attack on Jay-Z or Beyonce. I was at a press conference in Switzerland. Questions were raised by the international press. They asked about the artists and the social engagement of the past based on a film we were watching…and how artists responded earlier in my life and how they responded today.”
Belafonte continued, speaking on the power of Black America's voice, in the context of the entertainment industry. “And I made the observation that the highly powerful voice that our community has—Black America has—there is so much celebrity power that it was sad to see that the collective of the celebrity power had not been applied to bring consciousness to the inequities that we face,” he explained.
Currently, Belafonte is camped out with Dream Defenders, a social activist organization, in the Florida Capitol. The group is camped out in protest of Florida's controversial Stand Your Ground law in light of the George Zimmerman trial verdict, of not guilty, absolving Zimmerman of any crime in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. “Artists that heard that responded in a very strong way. You’ll find that Jamie Foxx, you’ll find Chuck D [of Public Enemy]…you'll find that any number of highly profiled people have taken that critique and called for [a meeting]. We’ve sat. We’ve talked. And I will tell you now that these people that I’ve just mentioned are officially behind Dream Defenders. They are prepared to come down. They are prepared to perform."
"I would hope that Jay Z would not take personally what was said because it was not said about him personally,” said Belafonte, before concluding by inviting Jay-Z and Beyonce to join him in a private sit-down. “Having said that, I would like to say to Jay Z, to Beyonce: My heart is wide open and filled with nothing but hope and the promise that we can sit and have a one-on-one. And lets understand each other rather than try to answer these questions and these nuances in a public place.

Big Sean lets fans know what Eminem said about his album, talks about Kanye's baby North West and his own relationship with his current girlfriend.
Big Sean's sophomore album Hall of Fame is one of 2013's most anticipated releases.
Big Sean Speaks About Eminem's Involvement On "Hall Of Fame," Kanye's Baby NorthEver since the G.O.O.D. Music rapper announced that Detroit's own Eminem would be involved with the project everyone has been scrambling for details. Sean recently sat down with Sway Calloway of Shade 45 as he talked about Em's involvement and even what he said about the album's impact on the younger Detroit representer.
“We talked for like three hours (in the studio) before we played any music,” said Sean regarding the studio session. "Then he was like alright, I guess I've got time to hear a couple songs... And then when it was all said and done he was like, 'I’ve never been so impressed or surprised about an album. This one is gonna be big for you.’”
When asked if he had spoken to Kanye since the birth of his baby, North West, Big Sean said that he had indeed talked to the G.O.O.D. Music head and wished him well. Sean defended the name of the baby as well.
"People try and talk shit about that name," he said. "I feel like if I met a pretty girl and came up to me and said, 'Hi my name is North,' I be like, 'Oh, shit, what's up?'"
Big Sean also said that he might have a son in the future with his current girlfriend, Naya Rivera.

Slept-On But Dope Hip Hop Songs From The Week Of 7/22/2013

A Roots collaboration with Elvis Costello brings old and new together while Fredro Starr and Audible Doctor take us to the Rotten Apple, and F. Stokes is a true architect with "Lets Build."
Elvis Costello & The Roots - "Walk Us Uptown"

The reality is that if Elvis Costello released a song anywhere ever, we would never post it on HipHopDX. It's not because he isn't a brilliant legend, whose music should be heard over loud speakers in Every City, USA. It's just that he's not "Hip Hop" or even a distant enough cousin of it so rationalize placing him on our site. Of course if he released some scary Rap song like the Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys did, we'd post it in that same "WTF" manner. Anyway, "Walk Us Uptown" is the first release from Elvis Costello & The Roots' collaborative project Wise Up Ghostcoming September 17th via Blue Note Records. This first single is funky, as Elvis Costello's nasally vocals ask "Will you walk us uptown? And wherever you go you know we'll follow." Questlove's drums and The Roots band's instrumentation add a new feel to Costello's sound. It sounds like Black Thoughtis humming in the background, similarly how he does on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The song could have been on The Roots' fifth studio album Phrenology or something, but this is much better. It's unfortunate that it was "Slept-On" this week, but there was something here that is miles more important than a few more clicks in Audio. A song/project like this shows how far Hip Hop has really come. Hip Hop collaborates with Elvis Costello now – and in a non-ironic manner. That's amazing. However, while The Roots should be proud to have worked with the legendary Elvis Costello, Elvis should be equally proud to have worked with the legendary Roots as well. - Kathy Iandoli (@kath3000)

Fredro Starr & Audible Doctor - "That New York"

I've always been a fan of artists, filmmakers and writers who paint vivid pictures of the urban underbelly and juxtapose it with scenes of the high life happening 30 floors up across town. That's what Audible Doctor and Onyx's Fredro Starr pull off on their new track, "That New York." "The city of dreams is turned into a nightmare" and things are bleak from the get-go as we're dropped into a world full of past-due bills and sneak attacks, a place where everyone is desperate to get rich whether it's by dealing drugs, playing the lottery or resorting to busting into a bodega wearing a black mask saying "let me hold that paper." Fredro bounces between worlds. Hip Hop's been good enough to let him burn down Seventh in the GT and smoke blunts, not outside the aforementioned bodega, but up at rooftop bars near Columbus Circle. But obviously not that good as he goes from "Uptown to Bucktown" with some coke he bought with his gambling winnings. Whether this narrative is truth, fiction or some of both, it would all be lost if it wasn't for the top tier production from Audible Doctor. He crafts a dark and downtrodden kind of soulful sound that's usually impossible to pull off. The beat takes us back to that graffiti covered train from the Golden Era without forcing the nostalgia down our throats. Most importantly, his work on the track is restrained enough to let Fredro's scenes from the streets of Gotham unfold. -Michael Sheehan

F. Stokes - "Lets Build"

Last year, I spent my Valentine's Day (with my date) at a Doomtree concert in Philadelphia. My girlfriend is a huge fan of Dessa, Cecil Otter and Lazerbeak, and having been writing about the group and its members since reading about them in Urb magazine way back when, so am I. F. Stokes, who has made albums with Lazerbeak, opened up (along with Lushlife, I believe, who's also dope). I have never seen a non-local opener, who's not a household name, master a ceremony better than F. Stokes, who hails from Chicago/Wisconsin, now carrying New York ties. Stokes actually had the crowd sit on the ground on a dirty, sticky floor to listen to one of his songs, not an easy ask, especially in Philthadelph. Sounds strange, but if you caught the sincerity and charisma in his set, you would have sat down too.
A year and a half later, it's great to see "Lets Build." This is F. Stokes at his best—part Spoken Word, part 2013 emcee, who is able to put a message in his music with a delivery that grabs 100% of your attention. It's super Punk Rock how well Stokes can make great song in just over two minutes. If more people heard this man's music, let alone saw his show, they would understand why I am convinced he is one of the best artists in Hip Hop that even the blog-bookmarkers aren't yet up on. - Jake Paine (@Citizen__Paine)

DJ Khaled Explains His Desire To Marry Nicki Minaj

DJ Khaled hops on Power 106's DJ Fellie Fel's radio show to set the record straight.
Many walked away from DJ Khaled's proposal to Nicki Minaj scratching their heads. A lot of people thought Khaled's proposal to Nicki was either a publicity stunt or a joke. According to Khaled, he's dead serious and took to the radio Saturday to set the record straight.
Linking up with Power 106’s DJ Fellie Fel via phone, Khaled re-affirmed his love for Nicki and made sure to tell everyone that it's no joke.
“I aint a young boy no more," Khaled said. "I’m on my thinking the future. I just had to be honest. I always liked her. She’s my friend, of course. And I like her. It’s more than a crush.”
Minaj has yet to respond to Khaled even though it's been four days since his request. DJ Khaled said that he'd take the news in stride if the answer was no and would totally understand. The "We The Best" imprint head also believes it could take longer than people think.
“She might say yeah tonight or tomorrow, she might say yeah next year. What am I gonna do, give up? Never," he said. "I ain’t never give up on nothing I do.”
Khaled proposed to Nicki Minaj Thursday via MTV. He took a moment to explain his love for Minaj before showcasing a ring said to cost $500,000. His new album Suffring From Success is slated to drop on September 24.

The 10 Laws Of Success: An Independent Artist's Hip Hop Guide from Hiphopdx.com

A panel of industry veterans including LEP Bogus Boys and Torae weigh in on how to launch an independent Hip Hop career.
With all due respect to Eminem and 50 Cent, sometimes people watch movies like 8 Mile and Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ and assume launching a Hip Hop career works the same way they see in movies. I meet a lot of unsigned, aspiring rappers. Between assisting in HipHopDX’s social media and marketing duties and working with Coast2CoastLive.com, I’m at well over 250 events each year. And since Hip Hop is still a multi-billion dollar industry, one of the most common questions I run across is how an artist can get their music posted online in hopes of launching a successful career. We’re doing 13 or 14 cities, and I also host four to six online showcases monthly, so those questions get asked pretty often. Luckily, I also encounter plenty of A&R’s, executives, signed artists and producers who have established themselves within the industry.

So the following advice comes from those professionals—people like Ken Lewis (check the production credits of J. Cole’s, Kanye West and Jay-Z’s latest albums, and you’ll see his name). When rappers hope to get posted on various Hip Hop blogs and websites, these are ultimately the people they hope to impress and work with. So we put together this list based on Robert Greene’s The 48 Laws Of Power. It’s geared to getting your stuff online or just an overall balance of how to be successful as an independent artist trying to get signed.

This isn’t some guaranteed guide on how you’re gonna get on. But between industry veterans like J-Hatch, LEP Bogus Boys, DJ ill Will and Torae, there are over 100 combined years of experience in this roundtable. For what it’s worth, I used to manage an OfficeMax before getting involved with DX, Coast2Coast and i-Standard Producers. I had to make the decision between taking a pay cut and keeping the same job, or taking my unemployment and severance pay to leave and pursue my passion. So I can relate to any aspiring artist out there with a stack of burned CDs in pursuit of their dream. Taking the advice from the industry vets you hope to someday work with—along with some planning, hard work and some luck—is a start.
Law 1: Do Your Research

Eric Beasley: Co-Owner of The world’s largest MC Battle League, SMACK/ URL and one of the largest Hip Hop YouTube channels online www.youtube.com/Theurltv. Beasley has also worked as an artist and producer manager in addition to his time at Warner as an A&R.

“Making the transition from your mother’s basement to Madison Square Garden can be extremely difficult in this current climate of the music business. Most labels won’t take a chance on an artist—especially a rapper without any traction. When I say traction, I mean trackable data about you or your brand. This data can be in the form of BDS [Broadcast Data Systems] or Mediabase radio spins, a huge buzz on a mixtape (thousands of on-line downloads, independent sales, or write ups and praise from notable publications) presence on key websites and blogs, significant views on YouTube with a music video or blogs, touring, endorsement from established artists etc. Many ask how this can be achieved when the competition has more money, contacts, management, etc. Getting signed or becoming a huge independent artist takes a plan!”
Law 2: Use Resources & Strategize

Riggs Morales: VP of A&R and Artist Development at Atlantic Records. For more music education insight, visit www.Itsriggdup.com
“Drive: This is the trait is what will keep you moving forward as doubt sets in, as progress is made or as you reach those ‘stand-still’ moments when nothing is happening.
“Creativity: The ability to stand out from the rest starts here. Even if you find yourself in a place clogged by others pursuing the same thing you are (producing, singing, rapping), you should nurture the ability to create something that sets you apart from everyone and will help you stand out.
“Resources: Learn to work with less to get more. You can do just as much with a three people as you can with a 1,000, if it’s all you have to work with. Learning to work with bare essentials will push you to make the best with what you have.
“Strategize: Once you’ve built a cohesive system with what you have, then it’s important to utilize the little you have with a strategic approach. Make every small step count towards bigger steps.
“Vision: Have a clear (and realistic) outline of where you want to be and what you think will take to get there. Know that it will not happen overnight. It will take you time as you develop a rhythm through trial and error, which will ultimately trim the fat off your artistry and unveil the artist you were meant to be.
“Get A Job: You will make no money as you work on your craft, which can lead to a stressful state of mind and interfere with your creative rhythms. Get a job that allows you to pay bills and put food on your table until your ‘passionate hobby’ turns into ‘paying occupation.’”
Law 3: Create Quality Product

Ken Lewis: Multi-Platinum Producer for Kanye West, Jay-Z, Eminem, Drake, Usher, Danity Kane, Jeremih, 50 Cent. More info on Lewis and his online musical tutorial program is available viawww.AudioSchoolOnline.com.

“The number one thing young artists forget is that it’s really all about the music. If your song doesn’t instantly and strongly connect to people who don’t know you, you’re not going to make it very far. Don’t listen to your friends and relatives. They love you and want to see you win. Watch the reactions to your music from people you don’t know. Don’t tell me, ‘Well this rapper got signed and his songs suck.’ Really? Is that where you set the bar for yourself? If you want to get noticed, make or find hot beats, and write an undeniable hit. Then do it again, and again, and you'll get a deal. If it was easy, everybody would do it. It’s not easy, and it takes a ton of thankless, draining, work, coupled with tons of rejection and soul searching. But there are a few who will emerge every year to the top.”
Law 4: Master The Art Of Multi-tasking

L.E.P. Bogus Boys: Blueprint/Infared/Interscope Recording Artists. Follow Count and Moonie via Twitter at @LEPBOGUSBOYS.

“What you got to understand is that whether you’re independent or signed, it all falls on you. So you have to have an immediate team that multitasks and know their roles. We only got a team of five including us, and we all make the mechanism work. When you sign, look for a label that understands your brand not just because they got a lot of money for you. You also gotta build your relationships and stay persistent. That’s how we got so far—because of our immediate outlets of people we can get to. It took a whole lot to build that so strong, but it worked. More than anything, you gotta have good product and challenge yourself to be great.”
Law 5: Value Your Independence

DJ ill Will: CEO of Tha Alumni Music Group & Manager for Kid Ink. Ill Will has worked with and broke some of the hottest artists in the game including Soulja Boy, Chris Brown, Tyga and more.

“No offense to the major labels, but stay Indie and get your paper up before you even consider a major label deal. Trust me, you won’t regret it! Putting yourself at the mercy of a major label is career suicide…unless you’re the rare few.
Law 6: Develop An Identity & A Team

Brian “Z” Zisook: VP/Editor-in-Chief of DJBooth.net

“There are no hard and fast rules or stone cold lock advice that works universally when given to an aspiring artist, who is looking to escape from the confines of their mother's basement and make it as a professional recording artist. There are, however, several steps that should be taken to ensure that you are giving yourself the best possible chance at future success. These steps include, but are certainly not limited to: finding a team of professionals who believe in you and your music, developing an identity as an artist and branding your stage name and music accordingly, and creating a product that will sell itself.”
Law 7: Be Humble, Realistic & Work Hard

Kyle “KP” Reilly: VP Idle Media Inc / DatPiff.com

“For an artist to have a chance to make it out their mama’s basement and into a label’s boardroom, a lot of things need to happen, including a bit of luck. For the most part, what an artist needs more than anything is a good, realistic head on their shoulders. If your head isn’t right, you have an inflated perception of yourself or of the game, you wont make it very far. Be humble, be yourself and don’t follow everyone else’s or industry trends. Work harder and harder for yourself—not just to talk about how hard you’re working—results will speak for themselves. And lastly, do not spam or annoy those who you are attempting to sell yourself or distribute your music to.”
Law 8: Maintain A Physical Presence

J-Hatch: Co-CEO of I-Standard Producers. www.IstandardProducers.com

“These days, the general perception is that you need an online presence. Many aspiring artists then take to their social networks to send links out to people who in most cases consider that spamming. In reality it’s all about creating a balance—yes the Internet is important and influential. But networking, performing and building a fan base are all equally as important.”
Law 9: Become Business Savvy

Nick Hiersche: President of Coast2Coast Mixtapes & Coast2Coast Live. coast2coastmixtapes.com &coast2coastlive.com

“I think the number one misconception we get is they think others owe them because they made a song. Just because you made a song does not make it a venue’s responsibility to pay you all of a sudden. In order to get a paid booking, you must be able to sell tickets, alcohol or some other type of product for that venue or company. Music business is a business, and you must invest in yourself and your business until revenue starts being generated. If you are not getting paid to perform or feature on tracks, then you have not invested enough in yourself, period. The indie route is a smart route and can be done on a small budget, but it is still a budget. Until you realize this and make smart investments into your ‘music business,’ then it is a hobby, not a business.

The converse of that is that if you want a ‘major record deal,’ you must invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into your ‘music business.’ It takes that much investment for large returns to come in, which is the only thing that interests labels. So both ways cost time, money and of course effort and talent. But in today’s market you don’t really need the major label. You can generate a sufficient income by investing in your indie ‘music business’ until the revenue starts coming. And then you can just collect from the loyal fans you gained from investing!”
Law 10: Maintain Consistency

Torae: Emcee, Founder of Internal Affairs Entertainment, A&R for Soulspazm Records, co-host of Siriux XM’s “Rap Is Outta Control.” www.facebook.com/itstorae - Twitter & Instagram @Torae

“I think the most important thing in today’s market is to be visible. It doesn’t matter if you make the best music in the world if no one hears it or no one knows. So you have to be visible—seen and heard. Do a lot of shows, even if they’re free shows…even if only your family is there. Perform your music. Master it, get it air tight and record it. YouTube has birthed a number of sensations, so definitely have it uploaded and linkable there. You also have to get used to giving away music for free. There is so much competition now, in order for people to know your music, you’re going to have to give some away to build an audience and fan base. Social networking is very important as well. Make sure you’re active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. The more people are into you and what you’re doing, the more they'll care about the music, and the more they’ll spread the word.

“I did a docu-series last year called ‘Off The Record.’ I think all new and aspiring artists should check it out to get some insight on the ups and downs of the music business. It was filmed during the recording and release of my album For The Record. I did it so that I could shed some light on what it takes on the daily basis to grind out a career in music.”

10 Steps to make a hit (The Yeezus Process)

#1 LOVE
With Kanye’s newly released album” Yeezus” already at the the top of the charts, you may be wondering: How can I make a number one album? Well, it’s easy! Just follow these 15 steps and you’ll be on your way to stardom. First things first: hook up with Kim Kardashian..

According to Kanye, “Any woman that you’re in love with or that loves you is going to command a certain amount of, you know, energy. It’s actually easier to focus, in some ways.” Adding, “I’m the type of rock star that likes to have a girlfriend, you know? I’m the type of soul that likes to be in love and likes to be able to focus. And that inspires me.” So, if you’re serious about making a hit record, you’ll need to sweep Kim K off her feet; maybe pop out a daughter with a crazy cool name like “North West”. Sounds intimidating, right? Na, it’s easy. Just have 5 platinum solo albums and 3 Grammys. She’ll be your sweetheart in no time. Hit record, here we come!

#2 COLLABS
They say no man is an island; not even Kanye West. When producing his latest debut he gathered up the best in the business. Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, Skrillex, and RZA all worked on Kanye’s masterpiece. And at the end of the whole process, he enlisted executive producer Rick Rubin (Dude’s worked with artists like Black Sabbath and Johnny Cash) to put the finishing touches on it.

When you begin your journey to musical god status, remember to assemble a crack team of industry giants. Don’t forget to start with some great mentors, though. As for Kanye, he says referring to Jay-Z’s incorporating soul into his music, “… it finally gave me a platform to put the message that my parents put inside of me and that Dead Prez helped to get out of me and Mos Def and [Talib] Kweli, they helped to get out of me: I was able to put it, sloppily rap it, on top of the platform that Jay-Z had created for me.” You know Jay-Z, right?

#3 NO REGRETS

When producing great music, one mustn't be bogged down with painful regrets. So, Mr. West has chosen to simply have none. “I don’t have one regret.” He states.

And referring to the Taylor Swift debacle he says, “I’m just — not afraid, but I know that would be such a distraction. It’s such a strong thing, and people have such a strong feeling about it. “Dark Fantasy” was my long, backhanded apology. You know how people give a backhanded compliment? It was a backhanded apology. It was like, all these raps, all these sonic acrobatics. I was like: “Let me show you guys what I can do, and please accept me back. You want to have me on your shelves.” Way to stick to your guns, Kanye.

#4 FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

Kanye West is all about his own brand of justice. Something like “Yeezus” can only come from built up frustration. He says, “I’m going to use my platform to tell people that they’re not being fair. Anytime I’ve had a big thing that’s ever pierced and cut across the Internet, it was a fight for justice. Justice.

And when you say justice, it doesn’t have to be war. Justice could just be clearing a path for people to dream properly.” How very noble of you, we mean, of ‘Ye. He also adds, “I remember when both Gnarls Barkley and Justin [Timberlake] lost for Album of the Year, and I looked at Justin, and I was like: “Do you want me to go onstage for you? You know, do you want me to fight?” Umm, yeah, we want you to fight! For us, that is. We’re only trying to put out the next sensational album over here!

#5 BE AWESOME
Popping out a critically acclaimed, hit record will take a loads (insert what type of loads here) of confidence. So, should you take on such a feat, we recommend following Kanye’s advice. Just ooze “complete awesomeness at all times”.

Yes, dear readers; you must know your place, just like Kanye West. I am in the lineage of Gil Scott-Heron, great activist-type artists. But I’m also in the lineage of a Miles Davis — you know, that liked nice things also. Even one of his songs on "Yeezus" is called, “I Am a God”. Sure, why not?
#6  NO NEWS FOR YOU
keep us guessing. How? Well, for starters, you might choose to have over 9 million twitter followers and only display enough tweets we could count with our hands! Hey, if you intend on producing a 9.5 out of 10 star rated album (according to pitchfork.com) you will not have time to tweet away your days; even if you happen to have a baby with one of the biggest celebrities in the business.

Hey, no fair. We’re stoked to share pictures of our lunch! Update us a little! But, in his defense, Kanye says, “…this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby.” Playing hard to get, are we? Alright, fair enough. But you have to admit, it’s a pretty good strategy for keeping us interested in your record release. So, take a note from Kanye: stop taking pictures of your food and get to work.

#7 BABY BABY
What better way to spark interest in your new record than to time the birth of your first mega-star baby precisely with your record release? Now, we’re not saying Kim Kardashian delivered their prenatal famous baby right before the release of “Yeezus” for the sake of publicity. Ok, she did plan the Caesarian Section birth right before it dropped. And it was beautifully scheduled one month before the birth of Prince William and Duchess Kate’s child.

But, Yeezus! She couldn't hang on to little North forever! Still, planning a precise spawning of your own celeb baby couldn't hurt your record sales. We say give it a try!

#8 DREAM BIG

Don’t forget to set the bar high; really, really high. In his own words, “I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means.” Exactly; you must aspire to Steve Jobs status, and push all boundaries in order to make your own “Yeezus”. West states, “I think that’s a responsibility that I have, to push possibilities, to show people: “This is the level that things could be at.”

So when you get something that has the name Kanye West on it, it’s supposed to be pushing the furthest possibilities. I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars, because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus.”
 #9 BUILD AN IMAGE
Surely, you, as a ground-breaking artist, have experienced your fair share of criticism. Don’t let that stifle your music genius! Just pull a Kanye. You know, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. When you become a big shot celebrity, don’t be afraid to make fun of the image the press has of you.

And feel free to include some sarcastic remarks in your lyrics. Like in the new song, “I am God” which says, "I am a god so hurry up with my damn massage and a French-ass restaurant. Hurry up with my damn croissants." Yeah, hurry up!
 #10 YOU SO VAIN

Releasing a record like “Yeezus” requires some vanity. Confidence, bravado, arrogance; you’ll need those start the game off right. But eventually, it’s time to calm down and connect with your inner wise guy.

Like Kanye says, “The longer your ‘gevity is, the more confidence you build. The idea of Kanye and vanity are like, synonymous. But I’ve put myself in a lot of places where a vain person wouldn’t put themselves in. Like what’s vanity about wearing a kilt?”

J. Cole wrote an apology letter to Autism Speaks for his "retarded" line.

Various groups and fans have been more vocal recently about being outraged and offended by offensive lyrics from rappers.  Most recently we have the Lil Wayne Emmett Till line, and the Rick Ross date-rap reference, and the most recent, J. Cole's line on his "Jodeci" freestyle with Drake about autistic people.  Now Cole has penned a heartfelt letter apologizing for the line.
There was a petition filed by the Anti-Bullying Alliance shortly after the track was released, but the NC native wanted to be clear that the letter had nothing to do with pressure, and it was just when he listened to the line again, "I’m artistic, you niggas is autistic, retarded," and saw how it truly negatively affected some people he knew he had to apologize.
In the letter he insists this was not to appease anyone, but just make right something he felt was wrong.  He posted a link on Twitter and put up the letter which you can read below.
J. Cole         @JColeNC
I said something in a rap that was offensive to those with Autism. Feel terrible. A tweeted apology wouldn't do. http://www.dreamvillain.net/autismspeaks/

Recently there’s been a trend that includes rappers saying something
offensive, only to be attacked for it in the media and pressured to
apologize. I have to be completely honest and say there’s a part of me
that resents that. I view rap similar to how I view comedy. It’s going
to ruffle feathers at times. It’s going to go “too far”. I do not
believe that an apology is needed every time someone is offended,
especially when that apology is really only for the sake of saving an
endorsement or cleaning up bad press.
With that said, this is not the case today. This letter is sincere.
This apology IS necessary.
In a recent verse on the song “Jodeci Freestyle”, I said something
highly offensive to people with Autism. Last week, when I first saw a
comment from someone outraged about the lyric, I realized right away
that what I said was wrong. I was instantly embarrassed that I would
be ignorant enough say something so hurtful. What makes the crime
worse is that I should have known better.
To the entire Autism community who expressed outrage, I’m moved and
inspired by your passion, and I’m amazed at how strong you are as a
unit. I have now read stories online from parents about their
struggles and triumphs with raising an Autistic child and I admire how
incredibly strong you have to be to do so. It’s touching. It also
makes what I said even more embarrassing for me. I feel real shame.
You have every right to be angry.
To anyone suffering from Autism, either mildly or severely, I am
sorry. I’m bound to make mistakes in my life, but in my heart I just
want to spread Love.
I want to educate myself more on Autism, and I’ll gladly own my
mistake and serve as an example to today’s generation that there’s
nothing cool about mean-spirited comments about someone with Autism.
People with this disorder and their loved ones have to go through so
much already, the last thing they need is to hear something as
ignorant as what I said. I understand.
To the parents who are fighting through the frustrations that must
come with raising a child with severe autism, finding strength and
patience that they never knew they had; to the college student with
Asperger’s Syndrome; to all those overcoming Autism. You deserve
medals, not disrespect. I hope you accept my sincere apology.

Much Love
-Cole
[Update: Drake Issues Apology]
After J Cole made his heartfelt apology over the weekend, Drake decided to follow suit and take to his OVO blog this evening to state his apology. He also added that the lyric will be removed from the song. Drake's statement read:
"J.Cole wrote a beautiful and moving apology to individuals and families affected by autism who were understandably hurt by a verse in “Jodeci Freestyle”. I share responsibility and offer my sincerest apologies for the pain this has caused. Individuals with autism have brilliant and creative minds, and their gifts should not be disparaged or discounted. This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong. J. Cole and I believe that it is the right, responsible, and respectful decision to remove the lyric from the song."

Vybz Kartel found not guilty in one of his two murder cases

The second case is still pending.
Vybz Kartel has been found not guilty in connection to one of his two murder cases-- so he's not an entirely free man just yet. The dancehall artist was charged with the murder of a St. Catherine businessman, Barrington "Bossie" Burton, back in October of 2011. This murder charge came just two weeks after he was charged for murdering Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
Complex reports today that Vybz and the two men who were accused alongside him, Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson, were all found not guilty of the murder of Bossie. All three were freed after the prosecution told the court they had no more evidence against them.
Nonetheless, the artist will remain in custody as he is still has a second murder case pending. Vybzl will return to court in November for the trial in connection to the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams.

InterTweet : As a rapper, did you ever take part in any rap competition in the past? #INTWT
@IndustriousPimp : Nah but I have won several poetry contests. Poetry is want initially attracted me to music. I've wrote poetry all my life.#INTWT
InterTweet : What was the best advice you got and from who?#INTWT

InterTweet With @Yom_writer_poet

This InterTweet Occured on the 14th July 2013 http://www.yomdapoet.blogspot.com/
InterTweet :  Hello!! We shall start with : When did you start putting rhymes together? At what age that is?
@Yom_writer_poet :  as far back as I can remember it was more of rap. The first significant one was making a rap of track titles on an ABBA gold CD
InterTweet : So what made you switch to poem writing?
@Yom_writer_poet :  I never really switched, kept doing both but I was more drawn to poetry because it afforded me more freedom to express myself. Simplicity writing in plain language poetry shouldn't be only for those who love it, anyone should be able to read and relate
InterTweet : What does “being creative” mean to you?
@Yom_writer_poet :  staying a child, fusing the things you learn as you grow with the imagination you had that our society will try to suppress.
InterTweet : Do you sit and think through every word of every stanza or do you just write freely and allowing the words to flow?
@Yom_writer_poet : I normally write freely. After which I review my work, simplify a Few phrases and inject a little humor when necessary
InterTweet : What’s your favourite thing you’ve ever created?
@Yom_writer_poet : perfomed my poem falling at the challenge Ghana final where the cameras caught a lady in tears, can I say I created tears?
InterTweet : What are you trying to communicate with your art?
@Yom_writer_poet : the ability to eschew quality regardless of your field of choice. The heights to which resilient passion  Can take you.
InterTweet : Which creative medium would you love to pursue but haven’t yet?
@Yom_writer_poet :  porn lol jk, I love Rap and eventually ill drop a few tracks, play writing as well as song writing are also high on my mind.
InterTweet : What’s the best advice you ever had about how to be more creative?
@Yom_writer_poet : be Yourself.
InterTweet :  Did you ever think about publishing a book for your poems?
@Yom_writer_poet : actually I have, I want to reach 200 highly engaging poems and release them in a two part book.
InterTweet : What is your usual theme for the poems you write?
@Yom_writer_poet : I'm versatile, I cover any topic from an ignorant perspective that way I don't seem like I'm imposing my mind on the people
InterTweet : Can you remember the first thing you ever wrote?
@Yom_writer_poet :  not really, but im pretty sure it was for a girl
InterTweet : What is your definition of poetry?
@Yom_writer_poet :  beauty.
InterTweet : Dead or alive, who do you think of as your major influences in the world of poetry? How did you come to know them ?
@Yom_writer_poet :  funny, I never enjoyed outright poets, people like nas, obrafuor, and PAC who we can consider as a poet were my influences.
InterTweet : How much time does it take for you to complete a piece?
@Yom_writer_poet : the truth is sometimes it takes 30 minutes other times months depending on how inspired I am.
InterTweet :  Do you have an "audience" who gets to read or hear your poems before your fans get it?
@Yom_writer_poet : no, better. Editors are everyday people whom my Work  Is aimed towards.
InterTweet : do you have work on the net your fans can access?
@Yom_writer_poet : I do but a vast majority of it is limited to facebook my work is for now concentrated on live performances.
InterTweet : Any last tweets?
@Yom_writer_poet : People will Say What they want, but if you can be comfortable with yourself and mean It. All your 'demons' will be vaporized.
InterTweet : Thanks to @yom_writer_poet for this wonderful InterTweet follow him for updates on his work
