@BarimaPages : I started out as a singer. Been singing from infancy. I decided to rap cos of the hiphop influence. I just love Music. I realized I had a talent for making music and I decided to pursue it as a career after SSS in 2009 #INTWT
INTWT : So as you made that decision, was everyone ok with it? #INTWT
@BarimaPages : some of my family members frowned upon it cos of our strong Christian faith but with time they got used to it #INTWT
INTWT : So did you stop your schooling entirely to concentrate on your career? #INTWT
@BarimaPages : no. After SSS I had sometime on my hands to start making music frequently. Did so and then entered the University .I made music and schooled simultaneously in Uni. I'm currently on a lil break cos I'm in my final year at GIJ #INTWT

INTWT : So how did you use to cope with that incredible stress from both the school and the Stress machine that is music? #INTWT

INTWT : how did you come by the name Barima Pages.. #INTWT
@BarimaPages : some friends o mine called me "Pages" cos I loved to read. I decided to add "Barima" for an original feel #INTWT
INTWT : When you are writing your lyrics, do you usually get in that so-called zone? If yes, how do you do that? #INTWT

@BarimaPages : I write most of my songs late in the night. From 11pm onwards. I love the tranquility during that time of the day...I plug my earphones and play the instrumental for about 15mins. That's to psyche me up. Afterwards I sit down and write #INTWT

INTWT : What message are you trying to transmit to your listeners through your music? #INTWT
@BarimaPages : Music is like a mirror. It reflects the lives of the Artiste and the Society. It is used to send various messages across...I write my songs based on my feelings. I usually send messages of Love, Hope and Determination to my listeners...with songs like "Perfect 2" "I Pray" and "Get There" respectively
INTWT : Do you believe in the 'product' that is the music can sell itself or the 'promotion' is the only way to send it across #INTWT
@BarimaPages : A lot of factors come in here. If the artiste is already very known, there won't be the need for massive promo the music will sell itself but if the artiste is wallowing in obscurity, massive promotion is very necessary #INTWT
INTWT : Who in the industry are the artists you respect and look up to the most? #INTWT
@BarimaPages : I respect Kojo Cue, Kay Ara and Klu very much! Their advice has helped me improve my skills and stay focused.However, my fav musician is Drake I vibe with his music plus I rap and sing too. #INTWT
INTWT : What is your ultimate goal to reach in your career? #INTWT

@BarimaPages : haha. Interesting question. Greed is an element in every trade or discipline. I sometimes get that feeling Some underground rappers are way better than some "mainstream" artistes. These "Big" artistes sometimes don't wanna work with The underground artistes because they fear they would overshadow em. Its really happening. #INTWT
INTWT : Do you feel DJs could do a way better job with the Radio these days? (Not pointing fingers) #INTWT
@BarimaPages : I think they doing a great job. The only issue I got with DJs in Ghana is the "Payola" mayne! They gotta respect ethics #INTWT
INTWT : Tell us more about 'Payola'..Some of ur fans aren't from GH, so break it down a little for your international listeners.#INTWT
@BarimaPages : "Payola" is basically about DJs taking money from Artistes before playing their songs on radio. Its kinda hard one some  artistes considering the fact that the sums they demand are quite huge. #INTWT
INTWT : So in oda words..If your music cn change people's lives for the beder, dey'll nvr gt 2 hear it nd be saved cause of DJs? #INTWT
@BarimaPages : not neccessarily. There are other channels to promote music but radio is a much more better platform. #INTWT
INTWT : How much do you think the internet helped artists in GH? #INTWT
@BarimaPages : The internet has given a lotta artistes an opportunity to spread their music easily without condoning "Payola". Globalization is a beautiful thing. Via the internet I have been able to amass a number of listers across Africa with promo sites like @MusicofAfrica I got people in Zimbabwe, Malawi , South Africa and Nigeria listening to my music #INTWT

Nicki Minaj says DJ Khaled "was not serious" about proposing and says it was made to "give the world a glimpse" of their new record, "I Wanna Be With You" off Khaled's "Suffering from Success" album.

Nicki Minaj has finally addressed DJ Khaled's public proposal video, which he released last week. "[DJ]

Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal," she said Monday (July 29).

“I was shocked just like the rest of the world and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world ’cause Khaled is a master at what he does,” Minaj told Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex.

Yesterday, before Nicki spoke about this, DJ Khaled released his latest song off Suffering from Success. The song, "I Wanna Be With You," features Future, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj.

“It was just another way for him to kinda give the world a glimpse on the feeling of this record,” Minaj said.

"Nobody in my real life took it seriously," she said. "Everybody just hit me like, ‘LOL. Yo, Khaled is crazy.’”

Minaj confirmed that he was only "kidding" with the proposal video.

“Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, ya’ll. Please let it go. He was kidding. He’s not attracted to me. He doesn’t like me. We’re brother and sister.”

In his proposal video, Khaled referenced his new album, as stated in HipHopDX's initial report. The album will be titled Suffering from Success and is set to feature "I Wanna Be With You."

Harry Belafonte Asks For Sit-Down With Jay-Z & Beyonce

"My heart is wide open and filled with nothing but hope and the promise that we can sit and have a one-on-one," says Harry Belafonte to Jay-Z and Beyonce in an interview.

The back-and-forth between activist and music legend Harry Belafonte and Jay-Z has come to a head—with Belafonte offering an olive branch.

In a 2012 interview, Belafonte listed Jay-Z and Beyonce as two examples of modern, high-profile artists that have "turned their back on social responsibility."

Jay-Z responded to the criticism on "Nickles and Dimes," a track from his latest album, Magna Carta Holy Grail: "I'm just trying to find common ground / 'fore Mr. Belafonte come and chop a nigga down / Mr. Day O, major fail / Respect these youngins boy, it's my time now / Hublot homie, two door homie / You don't know all the shit I do for the homies."

Hov also addressed the matter in a recent interview, stating that he was "offended" by Belafonte's comments.

Now, in an interview with MSNBC, Belafonte explained that his statements about Jay-Z and Beyonce were not in fact a specific attack on either. “I would be hard pressed to tell Mr. Jay-Z what to do with this time and his fortune. All I can be critical is of what he is not doing,” said Belafonte. “This conflict that is emerging was not from me as a direct attack on Jay-Z or Beyonce. I was at a press conference in Switzerland. Questions were raised by the international press. They asked about the artists and the social engagement of the past based on a film we were watching…and how artists responded earlier in my life and how they responded today.”

Belafonte continued, speaking on the power of Black America's voice, in the context of the entertainment industry. “And I made the observation that the highly powerful voice that our community has—Black America has—there is so much celebrity power that it was sad to see that the collective of the celebrity power had not been applied to bring consciousness to the inequities that we face,” he explained.

Currently, Belafonte is camped out with Dream Defenders, a social activist organization, in the Florida Capitol. The group is camped out in protest of Florida's controversial Stand Your Ground law in light of the George Zimmerman trial verdict, of not guilty, absolving Zimmerman of any crime in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. “Artists that heard that responded in a very strong way. You’ll find that Jamie Foxx, you’ll find Chuck D [of Public Enemy]…you'll find that any number of highly profiled people have taken that critique and called for [a meeting]. We’ve sat. We’ve talked. And I will tell you now that these people that I’ve just mentioned are officially behind Dream Defenders. They are prepared to come down. They are prepared to perform."

"I would hope that Jay Z would not take personally what was said because it was not said about him personally,” said Belafonte, before concluding by inviting Jay-Z and Beyonce to join him in a private sit-down. “Having said that, I would like to say to Jay Z, to Beyonce: My heart is wide open and filled with nothing but hope and the promise that we can sit and have a one-on-one. And lets understand each other rather than try to answer these questions and these nuances in a public place.

Big Sean Speaks About Eminem's Involvement On "Hall Of Fame," Kanye's Baby North

Big Sean lets fans know what Eminem said about his album, talks about Kanye's baby North West and his own relationship with his current girlfriend.
Big Sean's sophomore album Hall of Fame is one of 2013's most anticipated releases.
Ever since the G.O.O.D. Music rapper announced that Detroit's own Eminem would be involved with the project everyone has been scrambling for details. Sean recently sat down with Sway Calloway of Shade 45 as he talked about Em's involvement and even what he said about the album's impact on the younger Detroit representer.
“We talked for like three hours (in the studio) before we played any music,” said Sean regarding the studio session. "Then he was like alright, I guess I've got time to hear a couple songs... And then when it was all said and done he was like, 'I’ve never been so impressed or surprised about an album. This one is gonna be big for you.’”
When asked if he had spoken to Kanye since the birth of his baby, North West, Big Sean said that he had indeed talked to the G.O.O.D. Music head and wished him well. Sean defended the name of the baby as well.
"People try and talk shit about that name," he said. "I feel like if I met a pretty girl and came up to me and said, 'Hi my name is North,' I be like, 'Oh, shit, what's up?'"
Big Sean also said that he might have a son in the future with his current girlfriend, Naya Rivera.

Big Sean "Hall Of Fame" Release Date, Regular & Deluxe Edition Cover Art

Big Sean's sophomore Def Jam Records album, Hall of Fame, finally has a release date.
The project from the Detroit, Michigan emcee will drop on August 27, which he announced via promo video:

The video has the camera rotating around Sean, while a track plays in the background with him rhyming: "I know I'ma get it, I just don't know how / Heart up on the stage, body in a crowd / Parents always tried to keep me home / But I can't get paid from the crib, so I'll be gone till we on / What's up,Finally Famous, I had it on my jacket when I was in high school / Knew I wanted to be in the nightclubs, and not all off in that night school."
As the camera continues to rotate, it reveals a robe Big Sean is wearing, which reads, "HOF 8.27."
Additionally, HHNM reports that Sean's next single from Hall of Fame is "Beware," featuring Lil Wayne and Jhene Aiko, which will premier on June 25. The artwork for the single is below:

Since its announcement, Hall of Fame has been delayed multiple times, and Big Sean has said he hopes to play the album for fellow Detroit rapper Eminem.

Slept-On But Dope Hip Hop Songs From The Week Of 7/22/2013

A Roots collaboration with Elvis Costello brings old and new together while Fredro Starr and Audible Doctor take us to the Rotten Apple, and F. Stokes is a true architect with "Lets Build."
Elvis Costello & The Roots - "Walk Us Uptown"

The reality is that if Elvis Costello released a song anywhere ever, we would never post it on HipHopDX. It's not because he isn't a brilliant legend, whose music should be heard over loud speakers in Every City, USA. It's just that he's not "Hip Hop" or even a distant enough cousin of it so rationalize placing him on our site. Of course if he released some scary Rap song like the Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys did, we'd post it in that same "WTF" manner. Anyway, "Walk Us Uptown" is the first release from Elvis Costello & The Roots' collaborative project Wise Up Ghostcoming September 17th via Blue Note Records. This first single is funky, as Elvis Costello's nasally vocals ask "Will you walk us uptown? And wherever you go you know we'll follow." Questlove's drums and The Roots band's instrumentation add a new feel to Costello's sound. It sounds like Black Thoughtis humming in the background, similarly how he does on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The song could have been on The Roots' fifth studio album Phrenology or something, but this is much better. It's unfortunate that it was "Slept-On" this week, but there was something here that is miles more important than a few more clicks in Audio. A song/project like this shows how far Hip Hop has really come. Hip Hop collaborates with Elvis Costello now – and in a non-ironic manner. That's amazing. However, while The Roots should be proud to have worked with the legendary Elvis Costello, Elvis should be equally proud to have worked with the legendary Roots as well. - Kathy Iandoli (@kath3000)

Fredro Starr & Audible Doctor - "That New York"

I've always been a fan of artists, filmmakers and writers who paint vivid pictures of the urban underbelly and juxtapose it with scenes of the high life happening 30 floors up across town. That's what Audible Doctor and Onyx's Fredro Starr pull off on their new track, "That New York." "The city of dreams is turned into a nightmare" and things are bleak from the get-go as we're dropped into a world full of past-due bills and sneak attacks, a place where everyone is desperate to get rich whether it's by dealing drugs, playing the lottery or resorting to busting into a bodega wearing a black mask saying "let me hold that paper." Fredro bounces between worlds. Hip Hop's been good enough to let him burn down Seventh in the GT and smoke blunts, not outside the aforementioned bodega, but up at rooftop bars near Columbus Circle. But obviously not that good as he goes from "Uptown to Bucktown" with some coke he bought with his gambling winnings. Whether this narrative is truth, fiction or some of both, it would all be lost if it wasn't for the top tier production from Audible Doctor. He crafts a dark and downtrodden kind of soulful sound that's usually impossible to pull off. The beat takes us back to that graffiti covered train from the Golden Era without forcing the nostalgia down our throats. Most importantly, his work on the track is restrained enough to let Fredro's scenes from the streets of Gotham unfold. -Michael Sheehan

F. Stokes - "Lets Build"

Last year, I spent my Valentine's Day (with my date) at a Doomtree concert in Philadelphia. My girlfriend is a huge fan of Dessa, Cecil Otter and Lazerbeak, and having been writing about the group and its members since reading about them in Urb magazine way back when, so am I. F. Stokes, who has made albums with Lazerbeak, opened up (along with Lushlife, I believe, who's also dope). I have never seen a non-local opener, who's not a household name, master a ceremony better than F. Stokes, who hails from Chicago/Wisconsin, now carrying New York ties. Stokes actually had the crowd sit on the ground on a dirty, sticky floor to listen to one of his songs, not an easy ask, especially in Philthadelph. Sounds strange, but if you caught the sincerity and charisma in his set, you would have sat down too.
A year and a half later, it's great to see "Lets Build." This is F. Stokes at his best—part Spoken Word, part 2013 emcee, who is able to put a message in his music with a delivery that grabs 100% of your attention. It's super Punk Rock how well Stokes can make great song in just over two minutes. If more people heard this man's music, let alone saw his show, they would understand why I am convinced he is one of the best artists in Hip Hop that even the blog-bookmarkers aren't yet up on. - Jake Paine (@Citizen__Paine)

DJ Khaled Explains His Desire To Marry Nicki Minaj

DJ Khaled hops on Power 106's DJ Fellie Fel's radio show to set the record straight.
Many walked away from DJ Khaled's proposal to Nicki Minaj scratching their heads. A lot of people thought Khaled's proposal to Nicki was either a publicity stunt or a joke. According to Khaled, he's dead serious and took to the radio Saturday to set the record straight.
Linking up with Power 106’s DJ Fellie Fel via phone, Khaled re-affirmed his love for Nicki and made sure to tell everyone that it's no joke.
“I aint a young boy no more," Khaled said. "I’m on my thinking the future. I just had to be honest. I always liked her. She’s my friend, of course. And I like her. It’s more than a crush.”
Minaj has yet to respond to Khaled even though it's been four days since his request. DJ Khaled said that he'd take the news in stride if the answer was no and would totally understand. The "We The Best" imprint head also believes it could take longer than people think.
“She might say yeah tonight or tomorrow, she might say yeah next year. What am I gonna do, give up? Never," he said. "I ain’t never give up on nothing I do.”
Khaled proposed to Nicki Minaj Thursday via MTV. He took a moment to explain his love for Minaj before showcasing a ring said to cost $500,000. His new album Suffring From Success is slated to drop on September 24.
